Way Funner
Your best run of the week is your score, so keep running and keep beating it. Five runners to a team, scores combined, with a bowling-style handicap so ability differences don’t decide it. New teams every month.

Five identical loops through Honolulu’s rainforest mountains, 24,500 feet of climbing packed into a course that never gets above 1,900 feet — technical, wet, and relentlessly repetitive by design.

Course description
99% technical single-track, 1% asphalt, through forest, along exposed ridges, and past vertical embankments in the mountains above Honolulu. The course is nearly all roots, rocks, and soil ranging from sun-baked clay to deep mud, with 22 stream crossings (2 on the Lower Loop, 4 on each of the five identical HURT Loops). Sudden hairpin turns and climbs up to roughly two miles long are routine. Elevation ranges only from 300 to 1,900 feet — this isn’t a high-altitude course, the difficulty comes entirely from repetition and technicality.
Elevation change
24,500 feet of cumulative gain and 24,500 feet of cumulative loss over 100 miles — all packed into a course that never climbs above 1,900 feet in elevation.
Aid stations
One water station at the end of the Lower Loop, then 3 aid stations on each of the 5 identical HURT Loops: Nature Center (Makiki Heights), Paradise Park (Manoa), and Jackass Ginger (Nu’uanu) — each one visited 5 times over the course of the race.
Special conditions & average temps
Tropical rainforest conditions year-round — high humidity, frequent rain, and mud of varying depth underfoot regardless of season. January temperatures in the Honolulu mountains are mild (generally 60s–70s°F) but the trail itself is the real obstacle: constant technical footing, stream crossings, and repeated climbing rather than heat or cold.
